But recently the company has introduced many changes in their custom ROM. Even the name has changed. Xiaomi's custom Android ROM is currently called HyperOS. A similar thing may be happening with Xiaomi's video toolbox feature. If you're using a Xiaomi or Redmi phone, you might have noticed that from MuUI 12, Xiaomi introduced a new feature to the video toolbox that allowed videos to play in the background in the YouTube app. That is, you could lock the phone i.e. turn off the screen and run the YouTube app to listen to the audio. But normally only YouTube Premium subscribers get this benefit in the YouTube app.

From MIUI 12 to MIUI 14, Xiaomi was providing the feature through Video Toolbox. However, technology analysts believe that since Xiaomi was offering the feature of Google's YouTube premium service separately to free users, the feature may soon be removed from the video toolbox.
Gizmochina reported this information through a Telegram post by Xiaomi. The app's ability to play audio in the background will be disabled for free YouTube users through an update to Xiaomi's MIUI or HyperOS. The feature was loved by many, but now they may have to consider other options.
